Rossol at Cedarburg Art Museum

Award-winning fine art photographer and Baileys Harbor resident Jim Rossol was juried into the Cedarburg Art Museum’s Iconic Wisconsin exhibit. The diverse works of artists from Wisconsin and three surrounding states provide an expressive portrait of our state’s landscape, culture, heritage and more. The highlights of this exhibition reveal unique aspects of Wisconsin that are not found elsewhere.

“I am honored and quite excited to have two of my compositions accepted,” said Rossol. The composite scoring of three jurors resulted in the selection of only 72 works from 156 entries by 56 artists. Rossol’s “County Fair Flavor” and “Just Another Pretty Face” were selected.

Rossol remembers he captured “County Fair Flavor” at the end of a three-day photo intensive gathering images at the Door County Fair for his published book, County Fair Flavor, a Photographic Essay. This photo was awarded the Third Place Photography prize in the 2015 Peninsula Pulse Hal Prize competition and was used as a cover photo in that issue.

“Just Another Pretty Face” was not captured with a telephoto lens but was shot close-up and personal. Rossol said, “We communicated. I converted this image to monochrome to add feeling and drama as sometimes color gets in the way.”
