Rotary Club Presents Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tour

The Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay presents the 21st Annual Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tours on May 4, 9 am – 2 pm.

Guests are invited to experience an insider’s view of the shipbuilding industry in Sturgeon Bay. For over a century this industry has been integral to Door County’s maritime history and economy. The shipbuilders of Sturgeon Bay have designed, built and repaired vessels that have traveled to ports around the globe.

Three facilities, all located on 1st Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, will participate: Palmer Johnson Yachts, Bay Shipbuilding, and Great Lakes Yachts Services. Start the tour at any of these facilities and see the efforts of many professionals who work in Door County’s ship repair and construction businesses.

Guided walking tours are offered at Bay Shipbuilding and Great Lakes Yacht Services, while self-guided walking tours are offered at Palmer Johnson Yachts. Coach bus transportation will be provided between tour sites.

Back by popular demand, the United States Coast Guard will open their 140-foot USCG cutter Mobile Bay for free guided tours.

Also, with the purchase of a Shipyard Tour ticket, attendees are eligible to receive 50 percent off the admission to the Door County Maritime Museum during the Shipyard Tour weekend.

Tickets will be available at all shipyard entry gates on the day of the event. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $6 for students, and kids under ten are free.
