Run For A Cause Aims for Biggest Year Yet

The organizers of the Door County Half Marathon are getting greedy…for Door County charities.

After helping runners use the race to raise $50,000 for charity during the last four years, the organizers aim to raise $25,000 in 2014.

Here’s how it works. There are 100 registrations set aside for charity runners each year who receive a free entry into the race if they raise at least $250 for a local charity. Thirty runners raised $17,246 last year.

Why are organizers confident they can increase donations by a third?

Two reasons: 1) More runners are using Crowdrise, the online fundraising platform that allows runners to form or enter a fundraising team. Donors have a fast, easy way to make an online donation and track progress. 2) This year’s race is already 40 percent full. It’s filling nearly twice as fast as last year’s race, which means raising money for charity may soon be your only way to get into the race in 2014.
