Run for A Cause in the Door County Half Marathon

When the Door County Half Marathon was launched in 2008 its founders hoped to create an event that was much more than a race. Heading into the fifth annual race in 2012, the Run for A Cause Program is helping extend the event’s reach to the peninsula’s non-profit community.

Participants in the Run for A Cause program raised $13,435 for local non-profit organizations in 2011, and the race generated nearly $20,000 in total contributions to non-profits.

The Run for A Cause program allows runners to pursue their personal running goals while raising money for one of the dozens of non-profits that help make Door County a better place to live.

Organizers have made 100 registrations available to runners who commit to raising at least $250 for an area charity. Once runners in the half marathon or the 5k raise the $250 minimum, they’ll receive a free entry for the May 5, 2012 Door County Half Marathon or the Nicolet Bay 5k run the same day. Participants are, of course, free to raise more than the minimum. The registration deadline for the program is April 1, 2012, though early registration is encouraged to allow ample time for fundraising and publicity for the chosen non-profit.
