Run The Door Race Circuit Launched

The Door County Silent Sports Alliance, in cooperation with the distinctive running races up and down the Door County peninsula, is presenting the inaugural “Run the Door” circuit this year. It’s a fun and healthy race series in which you earn points for participating, but less importantly, for placing first, second or third in your age group. The focus and emphasis of this new adventure are on participation. Everyone wins!

Have you ever done any of the runs of Door County? Imagine yourself looking out at the beautiful waters of Green Bay as you traverse through Peninsula State Park or Potawatomi State Park. How about seeing the waves breaking on Lake Michigan in Jacksonport, flying down the hairpin turn heading into Fish Creek, running between the bridges or on beautiful off-road trails in Sturgeon Bay or taking the ferry to Washington Island for a day at the races?

Those kinds of experiences and many more like them are what Door County’s running events are all about.

All the races will retain their charm, beauty and individual character. The not-for-profit Door County Silent Sports Alliance is merely forming an umbrella, or “big picture,” to promote and enhance organized Door County running to vacationers and seasonal residents as well as the local fitness buffs who already know the wonderful secrets of these tucked-away runs.

In other words, the DCSSA is hoping to make a great thing even greater.

Special thanks go out to the Ministry Door County Medical Center and the races themselves, which have embraced Run the Door. Without such cooperation, this active lifestyle adventure would not be possible. The first races are the Door County Half Marathon and 5K on May 3. The complete schedule is listed below.

You need to sign up (free) to be on the circuit and have your points tabulated throughout the year. You do that by emailing your name, hometown, age, gender and email address to [email protected]. For complete information, go to
