Safe Kids Day Returns Aug. 18

Families and visitors in Door County, seeking end of the summer fun and activities, can bring the kids to the second Safe Kids Day, a free and interactive program that teaches important safety lessons at the Door County Fairgrounds on Aug. 18 from 10 am – 2 pm.

This year Safe Kids Day will partner with Emergency Vehicle Day. Tour the Mobile Command Center, the Emergency Services of Door County’s Ambulance, Fire Trucks, and learn how to put out fires. See inside the patrol boat with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Try the flight simulator with the Civil Air Patrol or look through a helicopter and see how it works.

Talk with the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s water and boating safety friend. Investigate how groundwater can be contaminated. The first 100 families will receive a free bacteria test kit if you are on a well. Learn about dangerous household look-a-likes, keep safe from the dangers of electricity, and learn tips and techniques on animal safety.

Learn bike safety tips from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, and get free bike helmets and fittings from the Door County Silent Sports Alliance.

Complete your Safety Passport pages for a drawing for a free bike. Food and refreshments are available for purchase to benefit 4-H programs in Door County. More booths and fun activities available throughout the day. No registration required. Call the Health Department at 920.746.2234 for more information.
