Sale of the Summer

One of summer’s best buying opportunities returns with the Annual Used Book Sale, hosted by the Friends of Door County Libraries. This year’s 34th annual sale takes place July 23 through July 25 in the lower level Friends’ Room at the Door County Library, 107 S. 4th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay.

As always opening day is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, and is reserved for Friends’ members. (Non-members can join at the door, $10 per person). Hours for the general public are Friday, 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. Most books are priced at just $1 with a connoisseur’s collection of specialty books priced slightly higher. Saturday offers mega-bargains: all the books a buyer can fit into a paper grocery bag (provided) will be just $4.

Sorted and categorized for easy browsing, the sale offers thousands of titles to please any reader, including recently released fiction and non-fiction, shelves of titles in a range of genres, an array of children’s books (many priced at less than $1) and CDs and DVDs.

The book sale is the main fundraising event of the Friends organization, which is dedicated to supporting, promoting and encouraging the use of the Door County Libraries. The Friends fund some $20,000 annually in grants for materials, programs and activities that benefit all eight libraries in the system.
