Salute to Lighthouses

In preparation for the exhibit, Dorothy McDowell paints the Ridges Range Light en plein air.

The Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery salutes the Door County Lighthouse Festival with a special display of photographs and paintings of local lighthouses, June 14 – 20 at the Top of the Hill Shops, Highway 42, Fish Creek.

Featured artists include Barbara Kenyon, Bethany Kirwen, Denny Moutray, Gretchen Misselt, Penny Pfister, Karen Shanahan, Barbara Timmerman, Polly Joubert, Clarence Scherer, Dorothy McDowell and Madonna Siles.

According to Gale Ritchey, director of the gallery, “This Lighthouse exhibit showcases those artists and photographers with an eye for capturing the unique architecture and special beauty of our area lighthouses. Many of them will be involved in the county-wide self tour of Door County lighthouses either as photographers or plein air painters.”

In addition to the special exhibit, the gallery displays original watercolors and acrylic, oil and pastel paintings, photography and 3-D art as well as affordable art prints by 23 Door County Art League member artists. The gallery is open 11 am to 5 pm every day except Wednesday, and from 11 am to 3 pm on Sundays.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information visit doorcountyartleague.org.
