San Francisco Paces Nation in Diverting Garbage

The city of San Francisco recently discovered it keeps 70 percent of its disposable waste out of local landfills through recycling, reuse, or repurposing. In response to the news, mayor Gavin Newsome upped the ante, raising the goal to 75 percent. How? By refusing to pick up garbage at homes that don’t recycle.
Milwaukee keeps about 24 percent of disposable waste out of landfills.
