Sandy Ridge Farm of Door County Hosts Spring Shearing Day

Sandy Ridge Farm will host the First Annual Spring Shearing Day and the grand opening of the Sandy Ridge Farm Gift Shop on May 21. The event, cosponsored by KeLe Alpacas, is free and open to the public.

The public will be narrated through the steps of shearing an alpaca while Keith Bancroft, of KeLe Alpacas, shears alpacas. Sandy Ridge Farm and Deb Skubal will host an Alpaca to Apparel project – the first fleece of the day will be processed into a prize that could be worn home. During the event, the public can try carding, spinning, and weaving. After the fleeces are all shorn, there will be a mock fleece show in the gift shop.

Live music will be performed by local musicians including members of the Kewaunee High School Music Department and James Wilquet.

Kids of all ages can walk an alpaca for $2. Local artists and alpaca breeders will have their products available for sale in the new gift shop and vendors are welcome to bring in their booths. There will be food available prepared by the Sandy Ridge Farm family. Participants are welcome to wander through the barn and meet the sheep, potbelly pigs, chickens, and rabbits.

Sandy Ridge Farm is located about 15 miles east of Green Bay on Kewaunee Road (WI-29) and 0.3 miles south on Church Road; just north of the town of Krok. For more information call 920.536.1394.
