Savory Spoon Celebrates American Cheese Month

The American Cheese Society is paying homage to Artisan cheese in all its glory with the first-ever American Cheese Month this October.

American Cheese Month was created by the American Cheese Society to help raise awareness of the quality and diversity of American cheeses. The celebration will be held annually each October, with special events and promotions planned in cities across the country.

As the nation’s leading producer of cheese and home to the most award-winning cheeses, Wisconsin has plenty of reasons to celebrate American Cheese Month. Throughout the month, cheesemakers, cheese shops, chefs and other industry experts will join forces to celebrate the amazing variety of American cheese crafted in Wisconsin.

In honor of American Cheese Month, a Meet the Cheesemaker event is being held at the Savory Spoon Cooking School in Ellison Bay on October 18 at 6 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to sip wine and sample Wisconsin artisan cheese with Master Cheesemaker Joe Widmer of Widmer’s Cheese Cellars. Reservations are required.

The Schoolhouse Artisan Cheese Shop in Egg Harbor will host two open house events on October 20 and 27 from 6 – 8 pm. The evening events will feature the very best in artisan cheese paired with a selection of wines, presented by wine experts. The event is free and open to the public.
