Savory Spoon Cooking Classes

On Aug. 2 at 6 pm, the Savory Spoon Cooking School will offer a class on southern-style recipes. Familiarize yourself with new ingredients such as jicama, chorizo and tomatillos and how to turn them into mouthwatering morsels. The cost for the class is $60 per person. The menu includes Tequila Cranberry Chutney on Brie; Chilled Tomatillo and Cucumber Soup; Spinach Chorizo Citrus Salad; Turkey Picadillo Empanadas, Slow Roasted Pork Tacos with Chipotle Mayonnaise; and Mexican Chocolate Soufflé Cakes.

On Aug. 6 at 6 pm, Savory Spoon will have a class on campfire cooking. The class is $55 per person. The instructors for the evening are Mark Samuels and Ray Werner, who have collectively taught Outdoor Education at Lake Forest High School for more than 45 years. The class will teach the technique of twig fire and keyhole baking. Use of a variety of camping stoves will be demonstrated. The menu includes grilled Fruit Kabobs; Hickory-smoked Bacon Wraps; Gourmet Pizza; Fettuccine Alfredo with Sautéed Bacon & Leeks, and keyhole cherry pie.

On Aug. 13 at 6 pm, Dean Sommer, cheese & food technologist of the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research at UW – Madison, will take the mystery out of cheesemaking by demonstrating the cheesemaking process.
