Calling all kids! Savory Spoon Cooking School has some fun and educational classes lined up for this summer. The classes are appropriate for kids ages 7 to 13.
Guest chef Heidi Fannin, author of the new children’s cookbook Kitchen Kidz, will teach an “All Things Chicken” class on how to make great chicken dishes. The class is set for July 24, 9:30 am – 12. Each child receives a copy of the cookbook, too. The menu includes: Chicken Kabobs; Chicken Noodle Soup; Chicken Lettuce Wraps; Vegetable Chips (Sweet Potato, Yukon Gold Potato, Beets and Kale); and Strawberries and Vanilla Scented Whipped Cream.
The other Kitchen Kidz class is “Italian Feast” July 25, 9:30 am – 12 pm. The menu includes: Meatballs and Spaghetti; Meatballs and Spaghetti Squash; Homemade Tomato Sauce; Toasted Italian Bread; Garlic Salad; and Italian Ice.
Hidden Acres will collaborate with Savory Spoon again this summer. Both of their classes start at the Hidden Acres farm on Beach Road in Sister Bay and then move to the cooking school to prepare and enjoy a meal with the freshly picked veggies. Students will receive hands-on instruction in organic farming, basic knife skills and cooking techniques and leave with the confidence and recipes to help them grow and prepare food in their own homes and backyards.
Class will be taught by Anna Zasada, an elementary school teacher in the Chicago suburbs, and Emily Rehberger, a garden teacher with Edible Schoolyard NYC.
“Junior Chef Farm to Table 1” is Aug. 14, 9:30 am – 12 pm. The menu includes: Carrot Hummus, Naan Bread, Handmade Falafel, and Chocolate Cardamom Cake.
“Junior Chef Farm to Table 2” is Aug. 15, 9:30 am – 12 pm. The class has an Iranian theme with the following menu: Garden Art at Hidden Acres; Tah Dig (Crispy Rice); Zucchini Kuku; and Spiced Yogurt with Summer Berries.
The kids’ classes cost $55 each. For more information or to register, visit savoryspoon.com or call 920.854.6600.
