The 8th annual Steel Bridge Songfest (SBSF) will add a youth stage featuring local and visiting musicians to their lineup. The “Young Songwriters Showcase” will be held at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) at 7 pm on June 8. The “Construction Zone,” a weeklong collaborative songwriting marathon, will also largely feature young songwriters. “It’s always great to see what happens when you put these young songsters together with the more seasoned ones,” says pat mAcdonald, an SBSF organizer. “Their confidence seems to soar, and so often the bar gets raised for everyone involved.”
The “Young Songwriters Showcase” will be produced and co-hosted by 2012 Door County Idol winner Lena MacDonald of Sister Bay. MacDonald won that title after singing an original composition. Her choice to perform an original song also garnered her the Door County Idol Songwriter Award (an invitation to the 2012 Construction Zone).
As producer of the Young Songwriters Showcase, MacDonald will organize and perform in the show, and will emcee alongside co-host Tarl Knight (SBSF and Construction Zone alum from Green Bay). Other confirmed performers include Caleb Navarro (Sturgeon Bay), Brittany Hallet (another 2012 Door County Idol Songwriter Award winner, Brussels), Anya Kopischke (2011 Door County Idol runner-up and 2011 Door County Idol Songwriter Award winner, Sister Bay), Angelo De Augustine (BMI website’s Featured Indie Artist in April, Los Angeles), Liam Hall (son of SBSF veteran James Hall, Atlanta) and Seth Raddatz (Baileys Harbor).
