SBYC Sailors Win Awards

Cold weather and earlier sunsets have brought an end to the 2018 sailing season. Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club Vice Commodore Elaine Carmichael awarded handmade Shaker boxes to the winners of the TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) small-boat races, which consisted of a total of 38 races in four series, beginning in May and ending in September. When all the scoring was done, Steven Hurley and crew Mike Davis won first place. Griff Goetsch and crew Jeff Berg took second place; Gary and Barb Henkelmann won third, and Tim and Barb Graul were fourth.

Mike Willms ran and scored nearly every race over the entire season and was given a special award for his dedicated service.

The spring Harry Purinton Race was not held in 2018 due to inclement weather, but six yachts raced in the Sept. 8 Green Island Race. Griff Goetsch in his Catalina 36 Onward took first; Bill Draeb in his Cal 24-3 Little Grey Eagle was second; Mike Laing was third and Sam Keys took fourth.
