Scenic Byway Ribbon-cutting June 17

A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the designation of the Door County Coastal Byway as a new National Scenic Byway will be held Thursday, June 17, 1:30 pm, at Lakeside Park in Jacksonport.

In February, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration named the Door County Coastal Byway a National Scenic Byway. The scenic, 66-mile route takes travelers on a circle tour from north of Sturgeon Bay on Highway 57 to the tip of the peninsula and back down Highway 42 to the starting point. Along the way, motorists enjoy sweeping views of Lake Michigan, the Niagara Escarpment bluffs, dense forests, agricultural lands and several of the peninsula’s shoreside towns and villages.

The dedication event will feature federal, state and local highway, transportation and tourism representatives, along with members of the Door County Board of Supervisors and representatives of Destination Door County and the Door County Coastal Byway Council.

Refreshments will be served after the free, rain-or-shine ceremony.
