School Referendum Round-Up

Four out of the five Door County school districts are asking voters to say yes to some form of revenue limit override referendum this election, with Gibraltar having passed a recurring revenue limit override referendum during November’s election. Because of the way the state’s school funding formula impacts school districts with high property values and low enrollment, Door County’s school districts often go to referendum to ask for additional funding from their tax base. Read on to see the exact text of each district’s referendum:

Washington Island School District

BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Washington, Door County, Wisconsin, that the final school district budget shall include, on a nonrecurring basis, an amount of $391,000 for the 2013-14 school year and $481,000 for the 2014-15 school year in excess of the revenue limits imposed by Section 121.91(2m) of the Wisconsin Statutes for the purpose of paying the cost of district operating expenses. Shall the School Board of the School District of Washington be authorized to exceed the revenue limit under Section 121.91(2m) of the Wisconsin Statutes on a nonrecurring basis by an amount of $391,000 for the 2013-2014 school year and $481,000 for the 2014-15 school year for the purpose of paying the cost of district operating expenses as provided in the foregoing resolution? Sturgeon Bay School District

Shall the School District of Sturgeon Bay, Door County, Wisconsin be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $1,000,000 for the 2013-2014 school year only; by $1,300,000 for the 2014-2015 school year only; and by $1,600,000 for the 2015-2016 school year only, for non-recurring purposes consisting of funding educational programming for students? Sevastopol School District

Shall the School District of Sevastopol, Door County, Wisconsin, be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91 Wisconsin Statutes by $1,150,000 for the year 2013-2014 school year; $1,350,000 for the 2014-2015 school year, and $1,750,000 for the 2015-2016 school year for non-recurring operating purposes? Yes ____ No ____

Southern Door School District

Shall the School Board of the Southern Door County School District, Door County, Wisconsin, be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91 Wisconsin Statutes by $700,000 for the 2013-2014 school year; by $1,070,000 for the 2014-2015 school year; and by $1,310,000 for the 2015-2016 school year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of operating costs, maintenance projects and improving school security?
