Labrador retrievers are very popular dogs in both America and Great Britain, and many owners would like to know something about the life expectancy of their dog. A recent study involving 33,000 Labrador retrievers in Britain provides information about this and other matters related to longevity.
Researchers compared chocolate, yellow and black labs and discovered the median longevity of non-chocolate labradors is 12.1 years, which is 10 percent longer than those with chocolate coats. Also, chocolate labs are twice as likely to have ear infections and four times more likely to have hotspot dermatitis.
Among the entire Labrador population, the three most common health problems are obesity, ear infections and joint conditions.
