Scrimshaw Commemorative

Gary Kiracofe, resident artist at Scrimshanders in Ephraim, demonstrates his craft each Friday afternoon at 2 pm. While early scrimshaw was done with crude sailing needles, Kiracofe uses finer tools to create his pieces, including a design to commemorate 9/11 that he hand engraved on the ivory handle of a knife made by Mike Sakmar. The knife, and many other examples of this art “200 years behind the times,” are available at Scrimshanders in the Shops of Green Gables in Ephraim.
