Sculpture Show

“Portrait of Thomas” by Deborah Dendler.

Deborah Dendler, resident of Fish Creek, is one of the featured artists in the New England Sculptors Association (NESA) exhibition at the New England Sculpture Service Gallery, in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The exhibit opened on Nov. 7 and runs through Jan. 9.

Using centuries-old traditions and cutting-edge techniques, NESA sculptors work in a wide range of media from bronze and stone to recycled objects. Sculptures invite the viewer to examine them from all angles – to discover their meaning and how they were created.

Founded in 1948, NESA is one of the oldest sculptors organizations in the United States. It represents diverse membership of internationally, nationally and regionally recognized sculptors. The venue for the exhibit has intrinsic interest as well. New England Sculpture Service (NESS) is a full service foundry casting fine art sculpture, well known in the region for providing the highest quality bronze casting. The gallery at NESS is specifically designed to accommodate and view sculpture.

“I love seeing my work in a show completely of sculpture,” says Dendler. “Paintings dominate most exhibitions, but Michelangelo said, ‘Good painting is the kind that looks like sculpture.’ Visually, it’s very exciting to see a room full of sculpture.”
