Security Stepped Up After Threatening Email Sent to Southern Door Students

The Southern Door School District notified parents May 1 about a threatening email that was sent April 30 to a group of high school students and that remained, as of May 3, under investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Office.

Individuals who specialize in internet crimes were leading the investigation; a law-enforcement presence had been maintained on Monday and Tuesday; and all school personnel stepped up building security measures to ensure the safety of all students.

School staff met with the students directly involved, and the school offered opportunities for students to meet with counselors or administrators upon request.

“We understand that this information does not provide you with a resolution to the event that took place,” said Steve Borsty, Southern Door High School principal, in a statement. “However, it provides you with an update to our response while this event is being investigated by the authorities. We want to reassure you that our school continues to be a safe place for students to learn. We are steadfast in our commitment to concluding the year positively and are asking for your patience as this case is investigated.”
