Selfless Painting

“Selfless” by Jason Prigge.

Jason Prigge, one of Bay Art Gallery’s featured artists, recently painted a portrait in his home of Manitowoc to auction off for the Salvation Army. He painted a portrait of Tom Drill titled “Selfless” with the express purpose of donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the Salvation Army in Drill’s name.

Drill selflessly gives of himself on behalf of others for the betterment of the community all year long, but his selfless actions are most evident during the holiday season where he can be found daily ringing the red kettle bell in downtown Manitowoc for the Salvation Army. The painting portrays Tom ringing his bell in front of his little red cabin on the corner of 8th/Franklin Streets.

Barry Nelson agreed to host a silent auction for the piece at the Manitowoc Trading Company. Bidding was set to start at $300 with a ‘buy it now’ price of $1,000. Drill jokingly remarked that he would be thrilled if a painting with his representation managed to raise eight bucks. An anonymous person generously contributed the $1,000 to “buy it now” and take home the original work of “Selfless.”

A video of the progression of “Selfless” will be available on Prigge’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/user/priggeart.

Prigge is represented, along with other nationally acclaimed artists, by Bay Art Gallery at Sister Bay Trading Company, located at 2477 Hwy. 42 in Sister Bay. The gallery is open daily 10 am – 5 pm, and 11 am – 4 pm on Sunday. For more information call 920.854.2554.
