Sen. Cowles, Former Gov. Tommy Thompson Urge Citizens to Mask Up, Help Stop Covid Spread

Senators Roger Roth (R-Appleton) and Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statements supporting the coalition of statewide organizations on the establishment of the ‘Stop the COVID Spread!’ campaign, and echo their calls for citizens and community leaders to take an active role in helping to slow the spread of COVID-19 by adhering to simple prevention steps recommended by public health officials:

“Wisconsin, particularly Northeast Wisconsin, is at a crisis point with COVID-19,” Cowles said. “This effort is going to take everyone. That’s why I support the ‘Stop the COVID Spread!’ coalition. Please follow the public health guidelines, including wearing a mask, social distancing, practicing good hygiene, avoiding large gatherings, and staying home and seeking a test while you’re under the weather.”

The ‘Stop the COVID Spread!’ coalition, including groups representing health care, businesses, local governments, and higher education, launched this month with a bold announcement of shared concerns and goals.

University of Wisconsin-System President Tommy Thompson announced that the UW-System will join the effort and released a video advertisement. Their collective mission to educate the public about the seriousness of the pandemic and the critical need for preventative measures is crucially important at this time. These groups will work to push a message that it is time to double down on this virus, follow preventative measures, and keep Wisconsinites safe.
