Settlement Farmer’s Market Returns

For those individuals who have been waiting for fresh, locally grown produce and plants to appear, mark the calendar for Wednesday, June 18 when the first farmer’s market of the season occurs at the Settlement Shops in Fish Creek.

From Door County fresh organic greens and early vegetables to handmade Door County soaps and fresh homemade bakery, patrons will find them just south of Fish Creek at the Settlement Shops from 10 am – 3 pm (or sellout). Also, a lunch of handmade tortillas filled with organic greens and grilled chicken or veggies and beverages will be offered by Door County Private Chef.

This year marks the fifth year of the Settlement Shops farmer’s market; however, the history of the Settlement Shops goes back even further. Now in its 30th season, the Settlement Shops were developed by artist and fruit farmer Andrew Redmann. In 1978, he transformed his farm into an artist colony, which now includes Izora’s Bead Shop, Emmett Johns Art Studio Gallery, Ginny & Frieda’s children’s fun stuff store, Sweetie Pies Pie Shop, Bianca’s gifts and apparel, The Coop Gifts and Great Northern by Design Home Interiors. The Settlement Inn, also built by Redmann, is next door, and while the farm has changed over the years, there is still a serene country feeling, especially at the weekly Wednesday farm markets.

The farmer’s market is held each Wednesday through October on the green space that separates the shops. Located one mile south of downtown Fish Creek on Highway 42, the market will be cancelled upon inclement weather but will usually continue through a light drizzle.

Vendors interested in selling their home grown goodies or other delicacies of nature should call Linda at 920.868.3788 (Sorry, crafts cannot be sold).
