Sevastopol Spikers Win Regional Title

Sevastopol’s girls volleyball team has advanced to the WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinals after winning its regional championship match on the road Saturday.

The No. 3-seeded Pioneers won in four sets at No. 2-seeded Central Wisconsin Christian, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-14.

Sevastopol’s statistical leaders included Johanna Andreae: 26 kills, 18 digs; Bailey Rikkola, 18 digs; Claire Haberli: 13 digs, 3 aces; Emma Stueber: 49 assists, 11 digs, 2 aces; and Alaina Schopf: 18 kills, 12 digs.

The Pioneers will play their sectional semifinal match Oct. 27 at 7 pm against No. 1-seeded NEW Lutheran, this year ‘s Packerland Conference champion.

The two teams previously faced each other this season in Packerland play Sept. 29, when NEW Lutheran won in five sets.

The sectional semifinal winner will advance to the championship match Oct. 29 at Lourdes Academy to face the other semifinal winner between Monticello and Heritage Christian.

In Division 3, Southern Door saw its season come to an end in the regional championship match Saturday when the No. 5-seeded Eagles lost on the road to the top-seeded and three-time defending state champion Howards Grove in three sets, 25-9, 25-8, 25-10.

Southern Door’s statistical leaders included Kendra Shimon: 6 kills, 6 digs; and Alaina Shimon and Greta Gutschow: 8 digs.
