Sevastopol Takes Conference Golf Title

The Sevastopol High School golf team cruised to a comfortable victory at the 18-hole conference championship held on Tuesday, May 4 at Northbrook Country Club, capturing its second conference title in the last three years. Pioneer Rob Leist earned the tournament’s medalist honors with a score of 75 and was named conference Player of the Year.

Both Sturgeon Bay and Gibraltar finished 23 strokes behind the Pioneers (362) with Sturgeon Bay securing second-place in a card playoff. Oconto finished fourth (368) while Southern Door trailed in fifth (375).

The top five overall individuals for the 2010 Packerland season were: 1. Rob Leist (Sevastopol) 2. Ben Ehlers (Sevastopol) 3. Nathan Schmelzer (Sturgeon Bay) 4. Chris Janisse (Gibraltar),5. Sam Slaby (Southern Door).

In the post season, Gibraltar finished first out of a field of ten teams in their Regional meet on Tuesday, May 25 at Golden Sands in Bonduel, cinching a trip to the Sectional finals. Senior Ian Johnson led the Vikings to a resounding 18-stroke victory with a score of 75, and was awarded the meet’s medalist honors.

Sevastopol just missed qualifying for Sectionals by five strokes, finishing 5th.
