Sevastopol Town Hall Hosts “Bassford Family History” Presentation

The newly formed Sevastopol Historical Society will present its premiere program on the “Bassford Family History” on September 12 beginning at 7 pm in the community room of the Sevastopol Town Hall in Institute. The program is free and open to the public.

George Bassford was born in England in 1828 and by age 16 he was a railroad foreman. He and his young family joined others and immigrated to America. George’s wanderlust led him to what was to become the Town of Sevastopol, where he launched his farming career on the largest landholding in the area and proceeded to expand his financial and political connections.

The video presentation will include old photographs and excerpts from a recording made at Bayside Cemetery, narrated by Bassford descendants. There will be a question-and-answer session, followed by coffee, cake and ice cream.

The Sevastopol Town Hall is located at 4528 Highway 57, approximately five miles north of Sturgeon Bay. For more information call Linda Wait at 920.746.1230.
