The Sexual Assault Center of Family Services is seeking volunteers and interns to work as sexual assault advocates in Door County. No experience is necessary; all advocates receive extensive training prior to working with victims of sexual violence. Advocates play an important role in victims’ healing process as they not only field incoming hotline calls, but also respond to hospitals or police stations to provide immediate support and information. Interns provide additional support and legal advocacy. They sign up for two shifts each month that work with their schedule and attend monthly meetings with other advocates, to maintain protocols and expand knowledge.
Their next training session starts March 1. Training dates and times are: three consecutive Wednesdays, March 1, 8 & 15, 5:30-9:30 pm or two consecutive Saturdays, March 4 & 11, 9am-5pm. To inquire, contact the volunteer coordinator at 920.436.8899 or [email protected], or apply online at familyservicesnew.org/sac.
