Shepherd of the Bay Features “Classical Pops”

Organist Naomi Rowley will present a program of favorite “classical pops” for organ at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church on October 8 at 7 pm. The congregation and community are invited to attend.

Works chosen for this program are intended to inspire, delight, and amuse an audience of all ages. Long recognized master composers of organ music, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, César Franck, and Charles-Marie Widor will be represented as well as others perhaps less often associated with organ repertoire.

From the meditative melodies of Franck’s lusciously French lyricism to the energetically forthright strains of J.S. Bach’s Baroque style, from the delightfully buoyant harmonies of Vivaldi to the jazzy chords of George Shearing, there is much to enjoy.

“Don’t be surprised if you recognize tunes by Elvis and Gerome Kern in the mix,” said Rowley. The unforgettable marching pedal line below the brilliant carillon-like figuration in Widor’s famous Toccata from his 5th Organ Symphony will form a fitting finale to the evening.

Rowley is principal organist at Shepherd of the Bay, located on Highway 42 in Ellison Bay. A free-will offering will be collected to benefit the designated fund that supports special musical events at the church. This concert is the last in this year’s series of programs that feature the church’s pipe organ by Dobson Pipe Organ Builders in Lake City, Iowa. For more information call 920. 854.2988.
