Sheriff Warns of Thefts at Roadside Cash Boxes

In the past several weeks, the Door County Sheriff’s Department has taken complaints from business owners about roadside cash boxes that have been broken into. Businesses that sell wares such as wood, vegetables or fruit and crafts have been targeted. In some cases, the suspects have parked away from the businesses and then walked there and stole the money and/or cash box. Some businesses have surveillance cameras installed and suspects were recorded at the businesses but they hid their faces to avoid detection. Please notify the Door County Sheriff’s Department if you see or hear anything suspicious. Anyone with information can phone Investigating Sgt. Connie Schuster at 920.746.2428. The Door County Sheriff’s Department suggests that businesses take money out of the cash boxes frequently to help combat this type of crime.
