Sheriff’s Dept. makes drug arrest in Sister Bay

• The Door County Sheriff’s Department used its SWAT team to execute a search warrant at an apartment at the Country Walk Shops in Sister Bay Monday, Sept. 27. Sheriff Terry Vogel said one suspect was arrested and police were in search of a second suspect as of Tuesday, Sept. 28.

“We commend the public for sharing information with us that led to the arrest,” Vogel said.

Vogel said the raid was part of a long-term investigation that escalated with new information. Drugs, cash and one firearm were confiscated at the scene.

• The Gibraltar School Board approved its budget at its annual meeting held Sept. 27. The board voted to keep school board members salaries steady at $1,800 per year. Two people attended the meeting, including high school principle Kirk Knutson. The school also accepted two donations from Target Corporation in the amount of $1,700 for the elementary school and $1,300 for the high school.

• Several provisions of the health care reform bill went into effect in late September. Among them: the elimination of annual and lifetime limits on essential benefits; elimination of co-pays or deductibles for preventative care; insurance companies can no longer deny coverage for children with pre-existing conditions on their parents’ health care plan; young adults under age 26 will be able to stay on their parents’ insurance plan.
