Sherrif Warns of Sturgeon Bay Utility Scam

The Door County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of a scam involving the Sturgeon Bay Utilities. Customers are being told their service will be disconnected if payment is not received within 30 minutes. Sturgeon Bay Utilities advises that their normal procedure is to send a letter to a customer. This is followed by a reminder phone call and in instances where the address affected is different than the mailing address, a tag will be placed on the door. Sturgeon Bay Utilities will never request immediate payment by means of a pre-paid debit card.
