Shimmy Marcus Night Set for May 24

The Door County Short Film Festival (DCSFF) presents Shimmy Marcus Night on May 24 at 7 pm at the Town Hall in Sister Bay. DCSFF will be showing a short and a feature length film by renowned Irish filmmaker Shimmy Marcus, winner of the 2014 Door County Short Film Festival.

The short film will be Hannah Cohen’s Holy Communion. In the short, a spirited seven-year-old growing up in Dublin in the 1970s, Hannah, can’t wait to make her Holy Communion. The only problem is she’s the wrong religion. This short won at the Washington Jewish Film Festival, Chicago Irish Film Festival, Cine Gael Montreal Film, Door County Short Film Festival, and Waterfrod Film Festival.

The feature will be Soulboy, a coming-of-age drama set in the 1970s Northern Soul underground music scene. The film was names Best Feature at the Gijon International Film Festival, and was named the second best film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
