Ships, Shores and Lighthouses

Painting by Bethany A. Kirwen.

Third Avenue Playhouse’s Lobby Gallery presents paintings by Bethany A. Kirwen from now through July 25. Ships, Shores and Lighthouses is the current exhibit at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP). It features acrylic, mixed media, and pastel paintings that reflect the beauty of the nautical side of the Door County peninsula, along the Lake Michigan shorelines, and the Bay of Green Bay.

Kirwen expresses her optimistic vision through the interesting use of texture, color, light and design to emphasize mood, movement and contemplation. Her exploration and additions of unusual materials like nautical charts and steel to her acrylic works on canvas and mixed media, and ink to her oil pastels, are a reflection of her diversity.

The Sturgeon Bay resident works as a studio and plein air artist, participates in personal 30-day challenges to create a painting a day, and currently shows her work at the Door County Art League Gallery at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. She has participated in exhibits throughout the county, and won the People’s Choice Award at Paint the Bay competition during the Classic and Wooden Boat Festival at the Door County Maritime Museum in August 2010.
