“Shirley Valentine” Performance Benefits Women’s Fund

On Sept. 14, Third Avenue Playhouse will host a Women’s Fund of Door County night at the Stage Door Theatre Company’s production of Shirley Valentine. Half of the box office proceeds will be donated to the Women’s Fund of Door County.

Shirley Valentine is directed by Arthur Hooper and features Amy Ensign as Shirley, a wisecracking, completely unpredictable English housewife who proves it’s never too late to recapture your dreams.

Shirley Valentine was written by Willy Russell and won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, The Tony Award for Best New Play, and was made into a feature film with Pauline Collins (nominated for an Academy Award).

Ensign is well known to Door County audiences from performances with Door Shakespeare and Isadoora Theatre Company. Ensign will also appear in the upcoming Stage Door Theatre production of Almost, Maine.

Shirley Valentine has a new performance schedule. Performances will be held Sept. 8 at 7:30 pm; Sept. 9 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm; and Sept. 11 – 16 at 7:30 pm. There will be no performances on Sept. 10 or Sept. 15.
