Shout Sister Shout to Perform at White Gull Inn

Shout Sister Shout, a music group with hints of blues and jazz, will perform at the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek on Wednesday, February 24. Tickets for the 8 pm concert, the fourth in a series of seven scheduled at the inn this winter, are $15.

Shout Sister Shout is actually a combination of the group Steppin’ In It with singer songwriter Rachael Davis, who also performs as a single. Although both are known nationally for their folk repertoire, Shout Sister Shout focuses on American Jazz music featuring torch swing numbers alongside bluesy ballads.

Steppin’ In It is a band that plays roots music with the homey feel of old-time country, swing music and the blues. The Michigan-based group features the guitar and vocals of Josh Davis, Joe Wilson on steel guitar, dobro and trombone, and upright bassist Dominic John Suchyta.

Rachael Davis’ songs are drifting and longing, with elements nicked from both folk and pop – guided always by her bright, clear vocals. When Rachael performs with Steppin’ In It as Shout Sister Shout, the music is a tribute to the smoky, sophisticated sound of 1930s and ’40s jazz, with plenty of influence from Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nat “King” Cole Trio and Sarah Vaughan.

An optional pre-concert dinner will be served at 6 pm. The menu will consist of chicken, shrimp & andouille sausage jambalaya with basmati rice and corn bread, mixed greens salad with tomatoes and spiced zucchini in a citrus chile vinaigrette and pecan pie for dessert.

Tickets for the concert, reservations for the dinner and information can be obtained by calling the White Gull at 920.868.3517.
