Singer/Songwriter Emily White to Play Cookery Aug 2

Touring singer-songwriter Emily White will perform at The Cookery Wine Bar, 4135 Main Street in Fish Creek, Aug. 2, 8 – 10 pm. Admission is free. White is filling in for normal Wednesday night Cookery performer Katie Dahl.

Born in Memphis, Tenn., but currently residing in Chicago, White has been writing songs since she picked up the guitar at age 12. She has released four records to date, and is in production on her fifth release. She performs regularly throughout the Midwest and Northeast, and with each show “adds an infusion of humor, audibly diverse musical influences and a truly singular sound that may leave even the most severe folk cynics entertained.” (Asheville Citizen-Times, Oct. 12, 2009)

With lyrics you can chew on, White writes in varying song forms about issues ranging from grief to religious reconciliation to writer’s block. Her most recent release Staking Flags in the Valley was recorded in Nashville, Tenn., with producer Kai Welch and a host of Nashville musicians whose collective credits include bands as diverse as Mumford & Sons and Rilo Kiley. Although lush production features electric guitar, pedal steel, and keys, White’s work is ever focused on the songs.

No stranger to Door County, White has performed several times at Base Camp Coffee with Door County favorites Katie Dahl and Jess Holland. She looks forward to her first show at The Cookery.
