Sister Bay Buzz: Goat Parade, Concerts in the Park, Recycling Day

  • Congratulations to John Koessl, the winner of the Marston Anderson Memorial Cup, and Mike Tomasian, the winner of the Louie Oldenburg Memorial Cup, in the Car and Motorcycle Show which was conducted at the Country Walk Shops on Sunday, May 28.
  • Join my buddy, Sven, for the annual Roofing of the Goats Parade at 10:30 am on June 10. The parade begins at the corner of Mill Road and South Bay Shore Drive, and unless it’s raining the parade will culminate with the first “roofing of the goats” of the season at Al Johnson’s Restaurant & Butik. All goats are invited to participate in the parade, and goat costumes, Viking hats, and other creative endeavors are encouraged. There will also be a “goat plop” contest.
  • Sister Bay has offered free concerts in the park for more than 25 years. The tradition resumes on Wednesday, June 14, at the Sister Bay Stage in Waterfront Park. Bring your own chair, blanket or beach towel and snag a spot. Wednesday evening concerts begin at 6 pm and Saturday night movies begin shortly after dusk. The first concert of the season features the Modern Day Drifters.
  • The Liberty Grove Town Board and the Sister Bay Village Board have authorized a cooperative venture to increase recycling and protect the environment. All residents, business owners or operators, and owners of property in the Village of Sister Bay and the Town of Liberty Grove are encouraged to participate in a Shredding/Appliance Recycling Day on June 17. There will be no charge to have documents securely shredded or to recycle most computer components and small household appliances, but a fee of $5 could be charged to recycle a unit with freon, a fee of $10 could be charged to recycle a monitor, a fee of $15 could be charged to recycle smaller televisions and any other items which have a compressor or a screen, and a fee of $30 could be charged to recycle a console TV or a TV which is larger than 30”. Please note this list is not all-inclusive. Any documents to be shredded as well as any appliances or computer components to be recycled should be brought to the parking lot at the Liberty Grove Town Hall, 11161 Old Stage Road, between 9 am and 1 pm on the 17th. Please note there will be a limit of five bankers boxes per household or business. Sorry, but due to overwhelming response in the past, residents of other municipalities will not be allowed to participate in this program.
  • I’d like to welcome the new Branch Manager at the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Library, Christina Johnson. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 2002 and attended UW-Madison, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and a Master of Arts in Library and Information Studies. Since 2015 she served as Executive Librarian for the Globe Education Network, directing the school’s network of 26 campus libraries across five states. Speaking of the library, the new summer hours are now in effect:  10 am – 8 pm Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays; 10 am – 5 pm Thursdays and Fridays; and 10 am – 2 pm Saturdays.
  • The village will introduce a free trolley service as a mode of public transportation in the near future. The trolley will service Sister Bay’s motels, the downtown, and the Country Walk Shops via an approximately 30-minute loop. We are currently accepting applications for trolley drivers. If you have strong customer service skills and possess a CDL with a passenger endorsement please submit an application ASAP. The anticipated wage rate is $18 per hour, and applications can be obtained at the Administration Office.
  • As you can see a considerable amount of progress has been made on the Sister Bay Market Place parking lot. The new parking lot brings 48 additional parking spaces to the downtown area. On top of that approximately 65 additional new parking spaces have been installed in the village in the last 12 months. Signage directing people to public parking areas has been installed, so hopefully that signage will help folks navigate their way around the village more quickly.
  • To receive copies of agendas for any upcoming village meetings please provide your name and email address to the folks in the village office. Agendas and packet materials can also be accessed on the village website.
