Sister Bay Construction Meeting Scheduled

The Department of Transportation (DOT) will hold an informational meeting in Sister Bay to talk about the reconstruction of Hwy. 42 on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Sister Bay fire station.

A short presentation of the construction project – which will widen the road between Scandia Road and Country Walk Drive, add a bicycle and parking lane, replace a storm sewer, add a curb, gutter and sidewalk and realign the Gateway Drive intersection – is scheduled for the beginning of the meeting.

The project is scheduled to start in July 2015 with work on Hwy 57 between Canterbury Lane and Hwy 42 and be totally done in June 2016.

“There’s very quick detour route up on Country Walk Drive,” DOT project manager Jeremy Ashauer said about the Hwy 57 work scheduled for July 2015. “It’s not very intrusive, and really the amount of traffic that comes off of Hwy 57 is not that great.”

The DOT’s construction project in downtown Sister Bay was originally planned to start next year but had to be pushed back because of an issue with right-of-way space. The DOT has to purchase park land from the village to expand the highway, and will find other space to turn into park land to replace what it takes for the highway.

After Tuesday’s presentation, people will have the opportunity to provide input and ask questions about the project.
