Sister Bay Enacts Pebble Beach Ordinance

The Village of Sister Bay passed an ordinance July 21 to enact a $300 fine for those who remove stones from Pebble Beach. The village has erected temporary signs at the beach and has permanent signs ordered.

The village acquired the property in cooperation with the Door County Land Trust last year. Some people have been spotted removing backpacks and buckets full of the stones. Washington Island has long had a similar ordinance at Schoolhouse Beach, where there is a $250 fine for removing stones from the beach.
