Sister Bay Historical Society Introduces Docent-Led Tours

The Sister Bay Historical Society (sisterbayhistory.org/museum) is launching a program of docent-led tours of the Corner of the Past and Old Anderson House Museum for the summer and fall. The new program features knowledgeable, engaging guides who make discovering village history fun.  Visitors may also use a Discovery Pen audio unit to explore independently.

The program features the 1875 Anderson family farmhouse and 15 buildings – many featuring late-1800s furnishings and artifacts – that are authentic, historically restored farm buildings from area residents. In addition to Anderson House, the site includes a barn, granary, machine shop, log cabins, migrant’s cabin, summer kitchen, sawmill, blacksmith’s barn and early tourist cottages.

The Corner of the Past’s machine shop photo gallery features enlarged images dating to Sister Bay’s early settlers, the Fire of 1912, berthed steamships, early logging, ice cutting and family life, among other topics.

The opening weekend for the docent-led tours will be May 28-30. Then the site will be open Monday–Friday, 10 am – 4 pm, through Oct. 15, with half-hour tours offered at 11 am, 1 pm and 2:30 pm daily. Admission is $10 per adult; children are admitted free. Reserve tour tickets at DoorCountyTickets.com.
