Sister Bay Hosts Granddaddy of Door County Festivals: Fall Fest

The 67th annual Sister Bay Fall Fest, Oct. 12 – 14, could go down in the memory books, and not only for the Sister Bay Centennial Celebration, but for the number of new additions/improvements to the festival.

Some of the additions/improvements include pumpkin bowling, helicopter rides, a Sloppy Joe Eating contest, the Ping Pong Ball Drop will be a drop again, free Wi-Fi access throughout the festival grounds, a Packer ticket raffle with a portion of the proceeds going to the Go Bo Foundation, and the UW marching band making an appearance in the parade.

This “granddaddy” of all Door County festivals boasts the largest parade of the year on Saturday morning at 11 am; a 3-day juried arts and crafts festival with vendors who only sell arts and crafts they make; appetizing food and refreshing beverages sold by Door County non-profit groups and Sister Bay businesses; activities for kids of all ages; and live music throughout town. The grand finale of the weekend is Sunday at 2 pm with the Ping Pong Ball Drop, where more than 10,000 Ping Pong balls labeled with discounts and prizes from area businesses are dropped into the crowd of thousands.

Other highlights include a Door County Fish Boil hosted by the Sister Bay Lions Club on Friday night at the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Station, Northern Door Kiwanis Club flipping multitudes of pancakes on Saturday morning in the Village Hall, and the Door County Humane Society Dog Show on Saturday.

This year’s Parade Marshall will be the 2012 Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Volunteer of the Year – the winner of which will be announced during the parade. The Southern Door High School Marching Band, the Gibraltar School District Marching Band and the Milwaukee Scottish Pipe Band will all provide rhythm and beats for the parade floats and participants. All Door County individuals, businesses and groups are invited to enter a float into the parade or dress up in costume and entertain the crowd. To register call 920.854.2812; line-up is on Maple Dr./County ZZ past the Sister Bay Bowl.
