Sister Bay Introduces Goats on Poles

Goat by Gary Chaudoir.

The Year of the Goat in Sister Bay gets another nod with the latest public art project in the Village: Goats on Poles. Fourteen Door County artists decorated life-sized goat cut outs, which are now hanging in Sister Bay along Highways 42 and 57. The goats will be displayed through the Door County Festival of Fine Arts (DCFA) on August 10, 10 am – 5 pm.

Goats on Poles will bring a little more color to Sister Bay, give artists that participate in DCFA more exposure, and promote the festival, according to DCFA committee chairman Ron Kane.

“We wanted to have some fun with a public art project in Sister Bay, something that’s not been done before,” said Kane. “We came up with the Goats on Poles idea, the artists have had great fun decorating the goats, and we want to keep ‘growing the herd’ each year.”

For the inaugural year, the goats are not for sale, however, there will be a limited number of goat ‘kids’ festival attendees can paint and take home at the DCFA craft tent.

The Door County Festival of Fine Arts, sponsored by the Sister Bay Advancement Association, is free and open to the public. For more information call 920.854.2812 or visit cometosisterbay.com.
