Sister Bay Puts Moratorium on Lodging Development

The Village of Sister Bay voted Tuesday to affirm its plan commission’s recommendation to place a six-month moratorium on new transient lodging establishments in the B-1, B-2 and B-3 districts, as well as a moratorium on Conditional Use Permits throughout the village.

Several vacation-rental developments have been built in Sister Bay during recent years as services such as Airbnb and Vrbo have become more popular. Several more have been proposed in recent months, and Village President Denise Bhirdo said the pause will allow the plan commission to reexamine its zoning code in light of the proliferation of this type of development, which wasn’t anticipated when the zoning code was last updated.
