Sister Bay to Host Inaugural Christkindlmarkt

This holiday season, the Sister Bay Historical Society will host Door County’s first Christkindlmarkt, or Christmas market, with support from a Wisconsin Department of Tourism Joint Effort Marketing grant.

The Christkindlmarkt Door County (doorcountychristmasmarket.com) – scheduled to be open Nov. 26-28, Dec. 3-5 and Dec. 10-12 at the Corner of the Past Museum – will showcase vendors selling handcrafted goods made in the county: weavers, potters, photographers, painters, clothing makers, woodworkers, furniture makers, jewelers, candlemakers, glass blowers and more. Local restaurateurs will also run food and drink booths selling northern European fare.

“Our goal is to help bring new visitors to northern Door County during a time of year that has traditionally been rather quiet, despite the abundant natural beauty at that time of year,” said Fred Johnson, president of the Sister Bay Historical Society. “We hope to impact early-winter tourism while benefiting our local artisans and hospitality businesses for many years to come.”
