Skateboard auction raises $1,500 for skate park

• The Art for the Skate Park Auction, held during Fall Fest, raised $1,500 for the Sister Bay Skate Park. Eighteen boards went to auction, with the highest bid coming in at $170.

Organizer Lisa MacDonald said she would like to hold another auction next year or the year after.

“We got a great response from the artists, and the response to the auction was awesome,” she said.

• Frontier Communications announced Oct. 21 that it is able to provide high-speed DSL Internet services to customers in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Jacksonport, Sister Bay and Washington Island as a result of network investments.

Frontier will host a celebration of the new service at its Sister Bay offices at 262 S. Hwy 57 on Nov. 3 from 11 am – 1 pm. Refreshments will be served, and there will be an opportunity to enter a raffle for two tickets to the Packers vs. Vikings game in Green Bay on November 14, plus two VIP sideline passes.

• Gibraltar Superintendent Steve Seyfer reported that K-12 enrollment projections at the school will continue to decline through 2016-2017. The 2014-15 enrollment is expected to be 537 students, dropping to 507 students by the 2016-17 school year.
