Ski for Free, Distinguished Lectures, Wild Card Playoffs & More Weekend Plans

A quiet weekend on the Door Peninsula awaits you, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to do! We’ve got our top picks for the weekend ahead.

Friday, January 8

Strap On the Snowshoes

Take advantage of the recent heavy snowfall during a naturalist-guided snowshoe hike at The Ridges on Friday afternoon. Snowshoes are available for rent and if there happens to be insufficient snow, pull on your good ol’ winter boots for a naturalist-led hike instead. 2 pm.

Sing Your Heart Out

Blast away the winter blues with an evening of karaoke with DJ Hope Reyes at Mojo Rosa’s in downtown Egg Harbor. 9 pm. Have plans but still want to sing to your heart’s content? Join Cheryl Simon at Carrington Pub on Saturday night beginning at 9 pm.

Saturday, January 9

Doorfin Swim Meet

Cheer on the Door County YMCA Doorfins (coming off a hugely successful 2015 season) during their meet at the YMCA Sturgeon Bay location.

A Distinguished Lecturer

Enjoy the first installment of Door Community Auditorium’s 2016 Distinguished Lecture Series during Dr. Michael N. Olson’s presentation, “Searching for New Physics at the High-Energy Frontier (Without Actually Going There).” Olson will discuss the Standard Model of Particle Physics and all the questions it fails to answer. 9 am.

Sunday, January 10

Ski for Free

Enjoy the generosity of Crossroads at Big Creek’s ski-for-free program by checking out free ski and snowshoe equipment for the afternoon. When you’re done, grab a cup of hot chocolate and warm up by a fire in the Collins Learning Center. 1 – 3:30 pm.

Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins will host the Packers for the NFC Wild Card Playoff on Sunday. Catch the game on FOX at 3:40 pm.
