Smell the Season

Stretch your senses and expand your notions of what smells mean during an autumnal smelling tour with Jude Stewart on Oct. 29, 10:30 am, at Write On, Door County. Stewart is the writer-in-residence and the author of Revelations in Air: A Guidebook to Smell

Suitable for all ages, the tour will start with a few exercises to warm up participants’ “smellers” and help them tune in to this often-neglected sense. Then they’ll smell their way around the Write On grounds, learning about the seasonal smells: their histories, symbolic and cultural meanings, and more. They’ll also make aromatic pomanders with fresh oranges and spices and leave the tour informed, delighted and ready for a great-smelling holiday season.

Stewart has written about culture for The Atlantic, Slate, The Believer, Cabinet, Design Observer, Gastronomica and The Art of Eating, among others, and she has authored three nonfiction books. She runs a creative agency and divides her time between Chicago and Berlin, Germany.

The cost is $10 per family. Register at writeondoorcounty.org or call 920.868.1457 to join the autumnal smelling tour at Write On, Door County, 4210 Juddville Road in Fish Creek.
