Pioneers Shut Out in Softball Sectional Championship

Sevastopol’s softball team wasn’t able to get a runner on base Thursday in its WIAA Division 5 sectional championship game held in the Stevens Point area.

The Pioneers, who committed five defensive errors, gave up three runs in the first inning, three more in the top of the third and five runs in the seventh inning in their 11-0 loss to Edgar, which tallied six earned runs.

The Wildcats’ Makayla Wirkus pitched the perfect game against Sevastopol.

The Pioneers’ Libby Ash pitched the first five innings and recorded the loss. Addison Schauske closed out the final two innings.

Sevastopol finished the season with an overall record of 16-6.

SB, S/G Eliminated in Girls Soccer Tournament

Door County’s two high school girls soccer teams were both eliminated Thursday in opening games of the WIAA Division 4 tournament.

No. 9-seeded Sturgeon Bay lost at No. 8-seeded New Holstein, 3-0.

The Clippers trailed by two goals at halftime and gave up another goal in the second half.

Sturgeon Bay ended the season 7-7-2 overall.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar’s season also came to an end on the road when the No. 13-seeded Vikineers were shut out by No.4-seeded Sheboygan Lutheran/Sheboygan Christian, 8-0.
