Something for Everyone at The Ridges

The Ridges Sanctuary’s program schedule has something for everyone to enjoy this June.

Naturalist-guided hikes at the Sanctuary begin June 1 and are held daily at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. Enjoy a different kind of hiking experience in the woods of Logan Creek on June 7 & 21 at 2 pm, and let a naturalist guide you to the best spots for spring wildflower blooms. Adult fees are $5 for Ridges members and $8 for the general public. Children under 18 hike free.

Experience the unspoiled areas of Door County on a Guided Kayak Trip, June 3, 10, 17 & 24 at 8 am. With the help of a Ridges naturalist and a guide from Bay Shore Outfitters, the tour will be filled with opportunities to see native birds, wildlife and plants. Fees are $55/person and are fully refundable if the trip is canceled due to weather. Call Bay Shore Outfitters at 920.854.7598 for reservations.

Birders can join fellow enthusiasts for a Discovery Bird Hike on June 6, 13, 20 & 27 at 6:30 am. All members collaborate to identify birds, and both beginners and experienced birders are welcome. A Not-So-Early Bird Hike will be held June 20 at 9 am. Both hikes are free for Ridges members. There is a $5 fee for the general public.

Award-winning nature writer and photographer Rob Zimmer will lead two programs for The Ridges. On June 4, Zimmer kicks off The Ridges’ Lake Lessons speaker series with a discussion and photo tour of the fascinating world of moss and lichens at 7 pm at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. Admission to Lake Lessons is free. Donations are welcome.

On June 5 at 10 am, Zimmer shifts the focus to Mosses and Lichens of The Ridges. The workshop begins with a discussion of the various species found around the Sanctuary and will include tips on photographing and drawing them for nature journaling. Afterwards, venture out on the trails to do some hands-on learning. Workshop fees are $30 for Ridges members and $40 for the general public.

Unless otherwise noted, hikes and programs meet at The Ridges Marshall Cabin, 8288 County Q in Baileys Harbor. For more information or to register, visit RidgesSanctuary.org or call 920.839.2802.
